A new biogas plant connected to the Ämmässuo waste treatment was opened in Espoo on Thursday.
The new biogas plant will increase the production of renewable energy in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
The organic waste is processed and composted and the end product yields biogas and compost. The biogas will in turn generate electricity and heat in the metropolitan area.
By composing waste materials, valuable nutrients from the biogas are in turn freed back to the nature. The method aims to produce as much useful biogas as possible and reduce waste water generated in the process.
