Tourism companies are planning to invest at least 550 million euros in hotels and holiday homes, among other things, in the next two years, reported Helsingin Sanomat, a Finnish language daily.

The appraisal was based on information gathered by Helsingin Sanomat and the Finnish Hospitality Association (MaRa), a national trade and labour market association in the hospitality industry.

This figure could rise up to a billion euros in five years, believes Timo Lappi, the executive director of MaRa.

“There are a lot of investments under consideration. I have been involved in this for a little over ten years and there has been no such kind of investment boom during my time,” Lappi was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

The biggest investments, according to the report, will be undertaken by hotels serving tourists throughout the year.

In Helsinki district of Jätkäsaari, for instance, Clarion-tower hotel, a division of Nordic Choice Hotels is under construction. The hotel is estimated to cost up to 120 million euros.
