Prime Minister Juha  Sipilä has not yet given a direct promise to implement tax cuts.

According to the PM, the implementation will become clear in June, when the details of the competitiveness agreement will be known.

Labour market organisation policies on the Finnish wage model will, in Sipilä's view, provide the impetus “to talk about the tax cuts”.

After rejecting the competitiveness agreement, chairman of Service Union United (PAM) Ann Selin has appealed to the government to deliver the promised cuts immediately.

PAM leadership meets next Thursday to discuss how to handle the agreement.

“All parties know very well just how the calculations are progressing,” said Sipilä.

The Prime Minister said he is ready to attend the PAM board meeting, if his schedule allows.

According to Finance Minister Alexander Stubb (Kokoomus), the most important checkpoints come in June and next year.

“We are pleased that the social contract has taken the plunge and moved forward. We will do everything in our power to see that the social contract succeeds,” Stubb said to reporters at Parliament.

According to Sipilä and Stubb, background discussions regarding the whole contract are ongoing.
