Building permits in November to January were granted for a total of 6.5 million cubic metres, which is 14.1 per cent more than one year ago.
 
The growth came from public service buildings, commercial and office buildings, and industrial and warehouse buildings, according to Statistics Finland.
 
The cubic volume covered by permits granted for residential buildings went down by 5.3 per cent from the previous year.

The building permits were granted for a total of 1.7 million cubic metres of residential building projects in the November to January period. The cubic volume is 5.3 per cent lower than one year earlier.
 
Measured by volume, building permits granted decreased in all types of buildings in residential building construction, most in residential blocks of flats, the data show.
 
The constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production went up by 2.7 per cent year-on-year.

The volume of construction of residential buildings rose by 3.8 per cent and that of other than residential building construction by 1.8 per cent from one year back.
 
Measured by volume, 27.6 per cent more of all building projects and 57.2 per cent more residential building projects were started in the same period than one year earlier.
 
The large cubic volume of building permits granted during late 2015 for residential building, especially for blocks of flats now affects started building projects as per the statistics based on the building permit data of the Population Register Centre.
