Petteri Orpo, leader of Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party)’s parliamentary group, and Jan Vapaavuori, minister for economic affairs, are the top favourite faces to succeed Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen as the party chair, says a YLE news survey.

The survey interviewed 34 out of the 44 legislators from the National Coalition Party in parliament.

Orpo was the favourite among seven legislators while Vapaavuori was preferred by five MPs. Two parliamentarians selected Alexander Stubb, minister of European affairs and Foreign Trade.

Lenita Toivakka, vice-chairperson of the party’s parliamentary group, was only mentioned once while Henna Virkkunnen, minister for local government, did not get any vote.

Many of the National Coalition Party MPs were however either not able to or not willing to disclose their positions.
