Fire chokes woman to death in Vantaa

A middle-aged man was found shot dead in his apartment in Virasoja neighbourhood of Imatra in between late Saturday and early Sunday.
 
The man was shot with a small-calibre gun. The Southeast Finland police are investigating the incident as a murder.
 
The police have begun preliminary investigations but were not issuing any further information.
 
In another incident, a middle-aged woman died in her apartment on Sunday night in a fire that broke out at the five-storey apartment house in Kilterinaukio neighbourhood of Vantaa.
 
The rescue and emergency services received an alarm and rushed to the apartment building a few minutes before 3:00 am.
 
The woman was found unconscious in her two-bedroom apartment. Attempts to resuscitate her failed. 
 
According to the chief fire fighter on duty, there was nobody else in the apartment when they arrived.
 
A neighbour alerted the authorities after the fire had triggered the alarm and had discovered the corridor filled with smoke.
 
The cause of the fire is still not known as the investigation is still underway.
