FTimes – STT Report, Oct 28

The number of deaths caused by drunk driving has increased, reported the Keskisuomalainen, a Finnish language regional daily.

According to the report, one-third more deaths than last year’s have resulted from accidents caused by drunk driving.

A total of 35 persons were killed in drunk-driving accidents between January and September this year, whereas the number of deaths in the corresponding period of last year was 27.

The majority of the cases of death resulting from drunk driving have occurred in the Uusimaa and south Ostrobothnia regions.

On the other hand, cases of fatalities from drunk driving until the end of September were completely avoided in central Ostrobothnia, Ostrobothnia and the Åland Islands.

The increase in number of fatal accidents from drunk driving this year is unusual, since the number of deaths and injuries from drunk driving has fallen by half in a decade.

The figures are based on the Statistics Finland’s preliminary data.
