An operation to rescue a dachshund in Kangasniemi, south Savonia on Sunday involved heavy earth-moving equipment.

The dog had been stuck in a rocky hole until an excavator was brought to the scene to help with the rescue operation.

“The dog has been safely rescued and is doing fine under the circumstances,” chief fire fighter Jarno Laikola told the news agency STT on Sunday afternoon.

The curious dog had sneaked inside the hole on Saturday in the isolated area off Sydänmaatie.

The owners of the dog tried to dig it out on their own but were forced to contact the rescue department on Sunday morning.

The rescue department first excavated around the rocky hole; however, they needed an excavator to remove the heavy boulders.

The trapped dachshund encouraged the rescuers by barking loudly.
