At least 14 people were killed in separate accidents across the country during Midsummer till Sunday evening.
 
Nine of the victims drowned while five others died in other accidents.
 
A 74-year-old woman drowned in the Ristijärvi Lake, said the rescue department. The woman went to swim near her home and was later discovered drowned.
 
In Loimaa, southwest Finland, an elderly man drowned on Sunday while on a swimming trip.  
 
The man had left for a private beach along the Lomijoki River in the city centre. One person nearby saw the man sinking below the surface. 
 
The rescue department has not yet recovered the man’s body. The search efforts are going on.
 
In another incident, a man of about 30 on a fishing trip drowned after his boat capsized. The accident happened on Saturday evening. The southwest Finland police announced after midnight that the man was found dead.
 
Road accidents too claimed a few lives during the Midsummer. 
 
A girl of 14 was seriously injured when a vehicle she was travelling in hit a telephone post in Vihti of Uusimaa. The girl later died in a hospital.
 
In Hämeenlinna, a 16-year-old moped rider died in a collision with a streetlight pole. A 15-year-old boy who was riding on the moped was also seriously injured.
