The majority of Finns would like to hold on to inheritance tax, according to the results of a poll commissioned by the Finnish language daily Kaleva.
Fifty-six per cent respondents in the survey were in favour of retaining the tax while 34 per cent would like to get rid of it.
Ten per cent of the respondents, however, did not take any stand.
The survey was conducted in the second week of July through interviews with 1,000 people. The margin of error was +/-3.
Juho Rahkonen, research manager at Taloustutkimus, told the Kaleva that the answer emphasised the number one value of Finns which is fairness.
Rahkonen said people know that the majority of those who receive inheritance are the ones who already have money and thus can afford to pay taxes.
