The bakery and confectionery company sees the necessity for the co-determination talks because of changing consumer behaviour and a fierce price competition.
The reductions will touch on the company’s food services, bakeries, confectioneries as well as restaurant businesses.
The company employs over 6,600 people in the country of which 1,600 are clerical workers
In June, the company announced that it would go ahead with its plan to shut down its bakeries in Hyvinkää and Ulvila in the spring of 2015.
At that time Fazer announced that it had completed co-determination negotiations with 146 employees. Half of them are workers at its Hyvinkää bakery and the rest at its Ulvila facility.
The company said the negotiations were necessary as bread consumption in the country had declined. Furthermore, the number of baking stores had increased while the demand for packaged bread was shrinking.
