Supermarket chain Lidl will begin extending its opening hours from May. The Lidl stores will be open from 8am to 9pm on Monday to Saturday and 11am to 7pm on Sunday.
In the summer, Lidl will remain open even on public holidays, excluding Midsummer's Day, when all the stores will be closed except the one in Helsinki Kamppi.
“For example, on Easter, the amount of traffic through our stores was clearly visible,” said Lidl's chief operation officer Mark Henry.
The opening hours of shops were liberalised at the end of last year. Lidl has experimented previously with extended opening hours in a few stores.
The S-Group and Kesko stores have also had extended hours in the past. The S Group previously assessed that Sundays are becoming more important for stores.
