About 19 percent or equivalent to one in every six conscript interrupted service during the peak year of 2008.
This year and last year, 15 percent of conscripts interrupted military service. The number of interruptions started to fall after 2012.
Keskisuomalainen examined the occurrence with the help of statistics from the Finnish Defence Forces headquarters.
The majority of interruptions happened during the first days of the military service or during the two-month basic training period.
The common reasons for interruptions resulted from mental health issues or due to behavioural reasons.
Just under one-fifth of the interruptions resulted from musculoskeletal or connective tissue disease.
Other reasons for interruptions included general poor condition and overweight.
