An extensive campaign against sexual harassment was launched on Wednesday. The central message of the campaign is that everyone has the right to self-determine boundaries and to say no.
No one has to endure squeezing, touching, pawing, innuendo or comments that invade privacy, said Inspector Johanna Guessous of the Helsinki Police Department.
The campaign statement pointed out that sexual abuse is an everyday part of life in Finland and is found almost everywhere.
Police statistics show that sexual harassment is on the rise.
The Helsinki police, the Institute for Health and Welfare, the Immigration Service as well as a number of women’s organisations are involved in the campaigning.
