The volume of goods transported by lorries stood at 70 million tonnes in the third quarter of 2013, marking a decrease of 14% from the corresponding quarter in 2012. 
 
According to the Statistics Finland, the volume of transported soil materials decreased by 7% and the volume of transport for other goods went down by 19% compared to the fourth quarter of 2012. 
 
The data was derived from the statistics on goods transport by road compiled by Statistics Finland.
 
Meanwhile, the total transport volume of lorries amounted to 4.9 billion tonne-kilometres in the third quarter of 2013, which was 15% less than in the corresponding quarter last year. 
 
Of the transport volume, 89% was transported in professional transport and 11% in private transport.
 
Tonne-kilometre describes the volume of transport and is obtained as a product of transported volume of goods and length of transport journey.
