The wages and salaries sum of the whole economy grew by 1.2 per cent in the past October to December period compared to the corresponding period in 2012, according to Statistics Finland.
 
In the October to December of 2012, the wages and salaries sum grew by 2.0 per cent compared to the same period of the year before.
 
The wages and salaries sum grew in the September to November period of 2013 in almost all main industries, the statistics shows. 
 
The growth was fastest in the private health and social work (5.1%). In contrast, the wages and salaries sum fell in the private educational services sector (-0.1%), financial intermediation (-0.9%) and manufacturing (-1.4%), according to the data.
 
The wages and salaries sum refers to the sum total of the gross wages and salaries paid to employees without incentive stock options.
 
The wage and salary sum data of the private sector are added to the wage and salary indices release starting from the data concerning January 2014. The data will be released for the first time on 14 March 2014.
