National carrier Finnair has denied asking its staff to work for free during the winter holiday break.

Kansan Uutiset, online Finnish weekly newspaper, reported on Tuesday that Finnair was seeking volunteers to work at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport free of charge.

Some of Finnair employees also seem to have understood that way.

Finnair said those who were interested to work voluntarily should arrange with their supervisors and that the work was paid for like other normal tasks.

According to the company, similar campaigns have been organised in the past where check-in kiosks had been introduced.
