Employees of engineering company Wärtsilä took to the streets of Vaasa on Thursday protesting the authority’s decision of cutting jobs, reported Yle.

The demonstration took place following the announcement of the cooperation on Wednesday that it was slashing 142 jobs. In addition, the cooperation decided to terminate workers on temporary contracts.

Most of the workers to lose their jobs are based at the Vaasa plant.

The demonstrating employees believe that the economic and production premise presented during the employee representation talks are not sufficient.

According to Yle, the demonstration will end on Wednesday.
