The unemployment rate rose to 9.2 per cent in June this year, which was 7.8 per cent one year before.
 
In June 2014, the number of unemployed persons was 258,000, which was 42,000 higher than one year ago, according to Statistics Finland’s Labour Force Survey.
 
There were 18,000 fewer employed persons than in June of the previous year. The unemployment rate in the second quarter (April to June) of 2014 was 9.6 per cent, which was 0.5 percentage points higher than in the respective period of 2013.
 
In June this year, the number of employed persons was 2,561,000, which was 18,000 lower than a year earlier.

The number of employed persons decreased both in the private and the public sector compared with June 2013, the data show.
 
In June 2014, the employment rate, that is the proportion of the employed among persons aged 15 to 64, stood at 71.7 per cent, having been 72.1 per cent one year earlier.
 
Men’s employment rate was 73.1 per cent and women’s 70.3 per cent. Adjusted for seasonal and random variation, the trend of the employment rate was 68.4 per cent, according to the statistics.
 
The number of employed persons increased most in the industry of education and decreased in manufacturing.
