The city of Turku began statutory negotiations on Thursday with a view of employment reduction equivalent to 350 man-years for the period up to the end of 2016.
The city’s human resources director, Sinikka Valtonen, said Turku is looking for other alternatives to redundancies such as natural attrition.
The city has embarked on cost-saving measures and redundancies because of the reduced income from tax revenues as well government cuts.
The city has to make savings, because the economic situation looks bleak, added Valtonen.
Turku employs about 12,000 people and the personnel cost amounts to 55 per cent of city’s total expenditure.
