A total of 12,623 new motor vehicles were registered in August 2014, of which 8,713 were automobiles. 
 
First registrations decreased by 2.8 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year, according to Statistics Finland’s data based on the Vehicular and Driver Data Register of the Finnish Transport Safety Agency. 
 
During the time, the number of new passenger cars registered was 7,524, which was 2.8 per cent down from the year before, the data show.
 
The share of new diesel-driven passenger cars was 38.2 per cent.

In the January to August period of 2014 a total of 122,817 vehicles were first registered. Compared to the year before, there was an increase of 0.3 per cent. The number of passenger cars first registered in the January to August period was 74,683, which is 2.7 per cent up from the year before. 
 
The most common passenger car makes first registered in the January to August period were Volkswagen, Toyota and Skoda, according to the data.
