The National Institute for Health and Welfare-THL has just concluded statutory negotiations which will see the organisation axe 81 employees.

In all, 130 employees will leave the service, said THL in a release on Friday.

The institute undertook the cost-saving measures following reduction of the state budget.

The cuts will affect the ability of the institute’s scientists and experts to meet the expectations set for them, said THL Director General Juhani Eskola.

Niko Simola, chair of the Federation of Salaried Employees-Pardia, said THL employees are paying unreasonably high price following government cuts.

The co-determination talks started in September. The saving target at the beginning of the negotiations was estimated at 8.5 million euros.

THL employs a total of 1,300 employees.
