FTimes-STT Report, Dec 22

More and more employees are showing preference for a pay rise instead of having free time, according to the latest survey by the Central Organisation of Trade Unions-SAK.

The survey reveals that 58 per cent of the SAK members would welcome the option of a pay rise compared to the 40 per cent who preferred to take time off.

The latest revelation compared to the previous year’s survey results shows that employees are increasingly warming up to the idea of pay hike instead of less work.

In last year’s survey, 53 per cent wanted pay rise in contrast to 45 per cent who wanted less work.

In 2008 and 2009, only 14 per cent of the respondents wished for more work.

Based on the conclusion of the working-life barometer, SAK members’ need for money seems to have increased.

The bad times were also reflected in many ways in the survey results, said SAK Development Manager Juha Antila.

“In last year, a third of those who are employed feared losing their jobs,” said Antila in a release.

About 1,200 employed SAK members were interviewed during the survey conducted in February and March.
