Logistics company Tuko Logistics Osuuskunta is arranging a resource group for young employees who persistently miss to report at work without suffering illness all the time.

The first group involved nine employees of the company. Two of them are now former employees of the company. Among the rest, two were trained in different areas and the absenteeism of the remaining five persons has declined significantly.

The company also offers its employees a wide range of groups which improve well-being.

Beside the resource group, the company has, for instance, sleep and veteran groups for revitalising purposes and improvement of foot ergonomics.

The company’s Human Resource and Legal Director Merja Hokkanen said the company is trying to maximise value for money in the investment made in regard to the help groups.

“The exact saving is difficult to appraise. In 2010, the rate of warehouse workers’ absenteeism was 11 per cent; now it is around 7.5 per cent,” revealed Hokkanen.

Ronja Raskunen, who for six years has worked for the company in different capacities, said she participated in a foot ergonomics group, which for example, tested every kind of proper safety shoes and insoles.

Raskunen, who works in collection, described her work as physically demanding; however, she feels the support offered by her employer is good.

“The physical condition has to be good. In addition, work ergonomics must be in good condition so as to avoid back pain,” Raskunen said.
