The Labour Institute for Economic Research (LIER) forecasts that the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) will grow 0.4 per cent this year and 1.2 per cent in 2016.

Lier downgraded the outlook from its earlier forecast made in March by 0.4 percentage points for both fiscal years.

According to the latest forecast, unemployment will rise to 9.9 per cent this year but will slightly decline to 9.8 per cent in 2016.

The organisation does not believe that the government efforts to reduce the unit labour costs would improve employment. According to the institute, if the measures lead to
labour disputes, the government actions actually may cause great uncertainty.

Earlier in the week, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) released a more positive view of the Finnish economic growth.

According to the IMF outlook, the country’s GDP is set to increase 0.4 per cent this year.
