The combined turnover of the enterprise sector in 2014 amounted to EUR 382.7 billion, marking a fall by EUR 9.8 billion from the year before, according to Statistics Finland's preliminary data.

The turnover of manufacturing contracted by EUR 5.5 billion and that of trade by EUR 6.4 billion while it grew by EUR 0.4 billion in construction.

In the services sector, EUR 1.8 billion more turnover was generated than in the year before, mainly due to the strong growth of the gaming industry, the statistics show.

Despite the fall in turnover, manufacturing was able to increase its operating result from the previous year by cutting expenses.

The operating result generated from trade was slightly lower than in 2013, because the general operating expenses could not be adjusted to the fall in the sales margin.

In the services sector, the growth in turnover came from the industry of information and communication activities, where turnover grew to EUR 17.8 billion, or by EUR 1.3 billion.

The industry's operating result improved by EUR 0.4 billion. The growth was almost entirely due to the gaming industry.

Preliminary data on structural business and financial statement statistics cover the industries of mining and quarrying, construction, trade and services.

The number of personnel employed by enterprises went down in nearly all industries. Differing from most other industries, the number of personnel in the industry of Human health and social work activities grew by around 1.8 per cent from the year before.
