FTimes-STT Report, March 21

The parliament on Wednesday failed to take decision on mid-term Housing policy despite holding day long debate between the treasury bench and the opposition.

According to Housing and Communication Minister, Krista Kiuru of the Social Democratic party the day long discussion eventually failed to reach to a decision due to lack of a right proposal.

The minister, however, said that the government was looking for a suitable proposal to finalize the interim housing policy .

The debate raised following the proposal of the opposition Center Party lawmaker, Kimmo Tiilikainen who expected the government action to this effect.

He said that the housing market was facing difficulties because of high demand and less supply. He has blamed the unskilled construction work where system loss is core of the paradox.

Tiilkainen also alleged that despite offering number of proposals, nothing had come to effect so far.

The Perussuomalainen (True Finns) party is planning to place a housing policy in spring.

Housing Minister, Kiuru said that the government has extensive housing plan in the budget session, which is to construct about 2500 rented house in Helsinki area each year. She pointed out that house rent should be rational and need to look at the situation for general interest. The minister also urged that investors consider the house rent matter from the aspect of rationality.
