The Kemi-Tornio District Court on Wednesday sentenced the founder of the anti-immigrant pa-trol group Soldiers of Odin, Mika Matias Ranta to one year and a half conditional imprisonment for beating a man and a woman.
 
Ranta attacked a man from behind in Kemi in June last year.
 
When the man was lying on the ground, Ranta kicked him and punched his head and upper body. 
 
The man received fractures in his jaw that required surgery.
 
In addition, Ranta hit a woman who was trying to protect the man on the ground.
 
The court sentenced Ranta for assault and aggravated assault. In addition to the conditional im-prisonment, the court sentenced him to 50 hours of community service.
 
According to information by Finnish language tabloid Iltalehti, Ranta has previously been fined and given a suspended sentence for assault, carrying a bladed weapon, menace and defamation.
