Retail trade sales went down by 1.7 per cent in August from the year before, according to Statistics Finland.
 
In daily consumer goods trade, sales decreased by 0.2 per cent and in department store trade by 1.4 per cent from one year ago, the data show.
 
Wholesale trade sales went down by 3.2 per cent and motor vehicle sales by 0.3 per cent from the previous year. Thus, sales declined in total trade by 2.4 per cent from August 2013.
 
In August, the sales volume in retail trade decreased by 1.8 per cent and in wholesale trade by 2.5 per cent from one year back.  
 
In the January to August period, sales contracted by 0.7 per cent in retail trade and by 1.2 per cent in wholesale trade from the respective period of the previous year, according to the statistics.
