Turnover in service industries grew by 2.8 per cent in the second quarter from the corresponding time period of the year before, according to Statistics Finland.
 
One year previously, turnover grew by 0.8 per cent in the same period.  
 
During the review period, turnover in service industries grew fastest in the main industry of information and communication, where growth compared to the previous year amounted to 8.4 per cent.
 
Within information and communication activities, the turnover development in different sub-industries becomes differentiated, the data show.
 
Computer programming, consultancy and related activities grew heavily (19.4%) in May to July, while publishing activities declined (3.9%) year-on-year.
 
Among main service industries, growth was also fast in real estate activities, where turnover increased by 4.5 per cent from May to July 2013.
 
The industry of arts, entertainment and recreation grew by four per cent, and administrative and support service activities increased by almost as much, 3.7 per cent.   
 
The development of turnover was still weakest in transportation and storage enterprises, where the decline from the corresponding period in 2013 amounted to 1.1 per cent.
 
The turnover of other service activities remained almost on level with the year before and decreased by 0.1 per cent.
 
Accommodation and food service activities also grew only marginally: 0.3 per cent from May to July 2013.
