IT service company Tieto has decided to lay off about 300 workers from its product frame unit.

The decision was taken through an employer-employee negotiation that concluded on Friday.

At the beginning of the co-determination negotiations, the reduction requirements were estimated at 350.  But after the negotiation talks had begun in October, the company decided not to terminate more than 300 workers.

The first phase lay-offs and redundancies will be carried out at the end of March next year, while the rest will be completed at the end of October, company sources said.

The company’s largest product frame units are located in Finland, Tampere, Espoo and Oulu.

The staff reduction follows customers’ decision to go for using their own resources in product development activities, said the company, adding that it would reduce up to 600 employees in Central Europe and Asia.
