The sales in retail trade decreased by 3.6 per cent in May 2015 from the corresponding period in the year before, according to Statistics Finland’s retail trade flash estimate.  
 
Over the same period, the volume of retail trade sales, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, went down by 2.9 per cent.
 
In daily consumer goods trade, sales contracted by 4.8 per cent and the sales volume by 4.2 per cent in May from the corresponding period of the previous year, the data show.
 
There were 24 weekday trading days in May 2015, which is one day less than in May 2014.
 
The retail trade flash estimate is based on a sample covering, on the average, 60 per cent of retail trade turnover.
 
The data on trade sales by industry will next be released on 15 July 2015.
