The value of new orders in manufacturing was 8.6 per cent lower in May 2015 than twelve months earlier, according to Statistics Finland.
 
During January to May, orders remained at previous year's level.
 
Enterprises received more orders in May than twelve months ago in the textile industry and the paper industry.
 
In the textile industry, orders grew by 20.5 per cent from the previous year. In the industry of the manufacture of paper and paper board products, orders grew by 0.1 per cent year-on-year. But in the chemical industry, orders went down by 9.1 per cent year-on-year and in the metal industry by 11.9 per cent, the data show.

The index of new orders in manufacturing describes development in the value of new orders received by enterprises for commodities and services that are meant to be produced by establishments located in Finland.
 
The statistics are based on non-probability sampling, in which the basic observation unit is an enterprise or a kind-of-activity unit. The sample comprises monthly 400 to 450 enterprises or their kind-of-activity units.
