The year-on-year change in consumer prices rises to -0.3 per cent in October from -0.6 per cent in September as calculated by Statistics Finland.

 The slight rise in inflation was influenced, for example, by increases in rents, maintenance charges and the vehicle tax from one year ago.

Consumer prices were raised most in October by increases in rents, maintenance charges, and the vehicle tax from one year ago.

Compared to one year ago, the biggest decreases were recorded in the consumer prices of liquid fuels, subscriptions of periodicals and reimbursable prescription medicines.

 During the month, the most rise was visible in the consumer prices of package tours outside the EU and international air transport, the data show.

The biggest decrease was seen in the consumer prices of reimbursable prescription medicines and beer.

The consumer prices changed by 0.2 per cent from September to October.

 According to the preliminary data on the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices, the rate of inflation in the euro area was 0.0 per cent in October.

 In September, it stood at -0.1 per cent. The corresponding figure for Finland was -0.3 per cent in October.

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices does not include owner-occupancy, games of chance, interests on consumption and other credits, fire insurance on owner-occupied dwellings or the vehicle tax.

 The consumption items included in the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices, as well as the rules governing its compilation, have been defined in EU regulations.
