Two Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) ministers are proposing the cutting of home care allowance and extension of parental leave.

The Minister of Education and Culture Sanni Grahn-Laasonen and Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Lenita Toivakka said that shortening of home care allowance or balanced sharing of parental leave between the parents would improve the position of women in the labour market.

At the same time, the extension of remunerated parental leave would support parents financially.

The chair of Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party), Timo Soini, also the Foreign Min-ister, however, dismissed the proposal for cutting home care allowance brought by the two ministers.

Writing on his blog, Soini said the proposal is against the government pro-gramme.

He said that families have the freedom of choice between day care and home care.
