Turnover in manufacturing in the December to February period was 1.2 per cent lower than in the corresponding period of the year before, according to Statistics Finland.

Domestic sales grew by 2.6 per cent and export turnover contracted by 3.7 per cent from one year ago.

The turnover went down from the corresponding period of the previous year in nearly all manufacturing (C) sub-industries. It decreased most in the chemical industry, by 8.8 per cent, and in the electrical and electronics industry, by 4.5 per cent, the data show.

More turnover than last year was generated only in the textile, clothing and leather industry, 10.1 per cent, and in the forest industry, 5.3 per cent.

In the main categories of other industries, the turnover of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply grew by 1.9 per cent from one year ago.

In turn, the turnover went down slightly from the year before in mining and in quarrying, by 0.3 per cent, and in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities, by 0.8 per cent.
