At least 255 people were killed and 7,088 other wounded in 5,725 road accidents in the country in 2012, according to the Statistics Finland.
 
The Statistics Finland report released on Tuesday said that the number of human casualties in the road accident in 2012 was lower by 37 compared to the number of 2011.
 
A total of 43 persons were killed and 611 persons injured in drunk-driving accidents in 2012. The casualties in drunk-driving have reduced by 31 in comparison with that in 2011, said the report.
 
A total of 29 pedestrians were killed in 2012, which is 12 less than the previous year.
 
The number of cyclists' road traffic deaths was 19, which remained unchanged from 2011.
 
The number of moped riders’ road traffic fatalities went down. In 2012 there were 21 fatalities, or seven fewer than in 2011.
