The authorities became interested in the vessel on Wednesday because Finland and the US were conducting a joint aerial exercise near Pori.
The Nikolay Trubyatchinsky is a Panama-flagged vessel, but its name seemed to indicate it was Russian.
The Finnish Border Guard confirmed that enough information regarding the ship’s presence and operations had been obtained.
“At the moment there is no peculiar information,” said Tomi Kivenjuuri, deputy commander from the West Finland Coast Guard District.
The ship is a traditional research vessel, Kivenjuuri said.
According to Kivenjuuri’s estimations, the ship was expected to leave for Pori on Thursday evening or night.
