Finland's population at the end of February stood at 5,472,971, according to Statistics Finland's preliminary data.
 
During January-February, Finland's population increased by 1,050 persons, which is 1,470 persons less than in the preliminary data for the February year before.
 
The reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad. The number of immigrants was 1,340 higher than that of emigrants. There was no natural population growth, since deaths exceeded births by 290 persons.
 
In February, 3,650 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 2,310 persons emigrated from Finland, the data show.
 
The number of immigrants was 560 lower and the number of emigrants 100 higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
 
In all, 930 of the immigrants and 1,670 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
 
During January 8,810 children were born, which is 310 children fewer than in the corresponding period of 2014.
 
The number of deaths was 9,100, which is 500 higher than one year earlier.
 
The number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 36,060 during January-February.
 
Compared with the previous January to February period, the increase was 1,470 migrations according to the municipal division of 2015.
