An elderly man was killed in a fierce fire at Sastamala in Pirkanmaa early Saturday morning. The fire broke out after midnight on Maakunnantie in a two-storey office building, the top floor of which is housing.

As the rescue team arrived, a corner window of the apartment was broken, with flames pouring out. The rescue department was forced to evacuate residents in the neighbouring buildings.

The fire was extinguished fairly quickly, but the home was completely gutted. The man had been alone in the apartment.

According to the police, the cause of the fire was not yet known on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the shopping centre Sello located in Leppävaara, Espoo was evacuated on Saturday noon when a restaurant’s deep fryer caught fire.

According to the on-duty fire chief, after hearing the alarm, people left the building in good order and no one was hurt.

At the time of the fire, there were about 300 customers in Sello. Only a little bit of smoke spread from the fire to the rest of the shopping centre.

The rescue department went to extinguish the fire, but the oil flashed a few times before the fire was finally put out.
