An 11-year-old girl was hit by a lorry and seriously injured on Monday morning in Tampere.
The police described the situation of the girl as critical.
The accident happened at a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Pirkankatu and Mariankatu, the police confirmed.
The lorry running on Pirkankatu and heading toward the city centre made a right turn to Mariankatu and hit the girl who was heading the same direction walking across the pedestrian crossing.
The case will be investigated initially as aggravated endangering of traffic safety and cause to grievous bodily injury.
The police are also investigating whether traffic light on both side of pedestrian crossing displayed green light.
A prayer was organised in the early evening in the nearby Alexander Church.
