A two-storey storage building near an asylum reception centre in Parikkala, South Karelia was completely burned down on Tuesday night. There was, however, no injury.

The police suspect the fire incident to be a case of arson and are investigating the incident as an act of aggravated cause of damage since no natural cause of the fire was found.

Initially the police treated the matter as an act of sabotage, however, the police do not have reason to believe the fire to have endangered public lives or health.

The storage building was quite far from the camp's main building and other residential buildings.

Still on Wednesday there was no information on who started the fire. The police have appealed to the people living nearby to come forward if they had spotted anything in relation to the fire.
