Police deployed at the venue to isolate the demonstrators arrested two people to ensure a peaceful atmosphere, the police said.

A torchlight procession by Rajat Kiinni (Close the Border) and a counter-demonstration by Soldiers of Odin clowns left from the Centre Square but did not face off on Hämeenkatu as police built a human wall between the groups.

The police said they arrested two supporters of the Soldiers of Odin for disturbing the peace.

The clown demonstration had about a dozen members. They criticised street patrols by citizens with irony and parody. They sang, danced and played trumpets.

The police supervised Tampere’s Central Square area during the demonstrations. Among other things, people leaving buses were under surveillance.

The police were also prepared for unrest with riot gears, but the demonstrations did not lead to violence.
