He made the remarks while inaugurating the care debate for the church and the Finnish Social and Health Association at the Suomi Areena in Pori.
Terming the inequality in care services as a political issue, the archbishop emphasised that the country must ensure the equality.
Mäkinen said political decisions and the various social solutions also have an impact on the ways those in need of assistance encounter their care situation.
“The more people use the language of the economy, efficiency and savings in relation to services the more care is delivered quickly and efficiently and there is less room for two people to encounter each other,” the archbishop said in a church bulletin.
Mäkinen stressed that life is not only for the active, efficient and operational.
According to the archbishop, life is just as full, as real, and just as valuable in situations where active operations are no longer possible.
“It’s good to reflect on what these situations can teach us about the fragility of life, breaking, denting and letting go,” said the archbishop.
