The Pohjanmaa police are investigating a death that occurred at the Kuortane Sports Institute as a possible manslaughter.
According to Inspector Timo Välimäki, the police are determining how the pool was supervised and which employees’ responsibility it was.
According to the police, the death does not appear to be the result of foul play.
According to Välimäki, interviews with employees are still underway.
A swimming teacher discovered the deceased man Saturday morning.
According to the police, the man had gone into the pool the previous night. The pool had closed at 21.00.
The deceased man was born in 1961 and hailed from Rovaniemi. He was living at the Sports Institute. According to the police, he was swimming alone when he died.
The director of the Sports Institute has closed the indoor swimming pool until further notice.
