The sum of the wages and salaries of the country’s whole economy has grown by 2.1 per cent in the past March-May period from the corresponding period of the last year, according to Statistics Finland. 
In May alone, the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy grew by 4 per cent since the last year. The wages and salaries sum had grown by 4 per cent in the March to May period one year ago.
In the period from March to May, the development of the wages and salaries sum was weaker in all main industries than a year earlier. The wages and salaries sum grew fastest in private health and social work services (+6.3%). The development of the wages and salaries sum was weakest in the private educational services sector (-0.4%).
The wages and salaries sum refers to the sum total of the gross wages and salaries paid to employees without incentive stock options. The wages and salaries sum is influenced by changes in employment and in the earnings level of wage and salary earners.
