Experts stressed on encouraging migration with the view to boosting the country’s labour force and increase employment opportunities.

Mikko Räsänen, expert from the Confederation of Finnish Industries, said the social and health sectors and the catering and transport industries were in particular need of labour.

Räsänen observed that if qualified or skilled people were not available within the country’s borders, the recruitment process for foreign workers should be made easier.

Juhana Vartiainen, director general of the Government Institute for Economic Research, on Saturday in a column on the organisation's webpage wrote that Finland should increase work-related migration.

According to Vartianen, production in some small and medium-sized companies was being disrupted because of labour shortages.

At the same time, employment in Sweden had grown because of the arrival of an increasing number of immigrants there, he pointed out.

Echoing Vartiainen’s views, Räsänen said: “Shortage of workers disrupts business.”
