The strike by Itella transport and terminal workers continues into the second day.

Itella confirmed that domestic parcels will be delivered as normal. The strike may however delay domestic cargo shipments for up to one day.

According to Itella, deliveries of consignments could be delayed due to failure in unloading cargo at ports.

Letters, magazines and promotional materials will be delivered as normal.

The vice chair of the Transport Workers’ Union, ATK, said on Tuesday that the union will continue to support its members and hoped that Itella would return to the negotiating table.

On Monday at midnight, 300 ATK transport and terminal workers went on strike scheduled to continue till Thursday midnight.

Itella’s head of domestic haulage Timmo Kinnunen meanwhile said talks had been going on between the parties but no consensus had been reached yet.

The dispute surfaced after about 20 employees were offered an alternative that entails a new job description that consequently would earn them less money than they previously received after the spring co-determination talks.
