National flag carrier Finnair on Wednesday announced that it has reached a partial agreement with the Finnish Air Line Pilots’ Association (SLL).

The agreement is in sync with the Finnish Employment and Growth Pact between Finnair and SLL.

A statement from the airline company confirmed that a decision has been made that entails transfer towards a new wage model that lowers unit costs.

Finnair also said that the parties have reached a common ground on Collective Labour Agreements that result to 2 million euros in savings in the future.

The company also announced that it will not lay-off or temporarily off pilots before the negotiations are complete.

Finnair and SLL are trying to reach an agreement on cost saving measures totalling 17 million euros.

“We were able to agree on essential topics related to the employment terms of new pilots. The remaining 15 million euro cost savings will be sought mainly from the new wage model that we have been working on together with SLL,” said Ville Iho, Finnair's Chief Operating Officer in a statement released by the company.

Sami Rolig, the president of SLL pointed out the new wage mode in practice means that pilots will in the future be working more but on the same pay.

According to Iho, the two parties are both committed to the new wage system. He, however, admitted that it is a complex system and the final model and agreement on saving measures require more time.

The negotiations between Finnair and SLL will be continued until September 7.
