The German shipbuilder Meyer Werft and the Finnish government are discussing with STX Europe AS to acquire their subsidiary STX Finland Oy, comprising the Turku yard, said an official press release on Monday.

The consortium has now reached meaningful progress on the main terms of the transaction. However, there are still a number of open issues that need to be resolved. The issues include a number of discussions and agreements to be concluded with other stakeholders.

“If we all work on it and create favourable conditions for the yard, we see a positive long-term future for the Turku yard and the whole maritime cluster in the region, which the yard has a symbiotic relationship with,” noted Economic Affairs Minister Jan Vapaavuori.

“The negotiations are continuing intensively and we are confident that we can make necessary progress within a short period,” added Managing Director Jan Meyer.
They said that the  common objective is to achieve a final settlement soon.
